A post-doctoral position on 'Mechanistic model of phytoplankton and zooplankton
Developing a mechanistic model of phytoplankton and zooplankton growth based on a global ocean biogeochemical model (PISCES)', is currently available, in collaboration with Centre IRD de Bretagne and the Centre d'Océanologie de Marseille, in France. This position is funded by a French national project called MACROES. One of the objectives of MACROES is to couple the biogeochemical model PISCES with the pelagic ecosystems model APECOSM. Strong knowledge of biological oceanography and ecosystem modelling is required, while knowledge of physical oceanography will be considered as a plus. Furthermore, fortran 90 will be used as a programming language, thus solid knowledge of this will also be requested. The duration of this vacancy is 18 months. Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellowship on Integrated Coastal and Marine Geologic and Habitat Mapping -New Approaches and Products for the 21st Century
The US Geological Survey has established a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellowship investigating Integrated Coastal and Marine Geologic and Habitat Mapping—New Approaches and Products for the 21st Century. A complete description of the position is provided below. Students interested in advancing the science of benthic habitat studies, and that will have completed their Ph.D work by March, 2010, are strongly encouraged to apply. Guidelines for how to apply, as well as a complete listing of USGS Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellowships beginning fall of 2010 can be viewed at: http://geology.usgs.gov/postdoc.

2 Phds for numerical modelling of hydrodynamics and sediment dynamics in the Wadden Sea of the North Sea
2 PhD positions are available at the University of Oldenburg in northern Germany for numerical modelling of hydrodynamics and sedimentdynamics in the Wadden Sea of the North          Sea under climate change scenarios.
The positions are closely related but differ in the numerical approach and differ in the source of funding and expected results in terms of scale of the region to be investigated.
